Paul Mayer believes that there is a science and an art to lending, and finds that striking a balance between both is what is most challenging and rewarding about his role as Chief Credit Officer.
Paul’s primary responsibility is to work closely with the bank’s Relationship Managers to structure, provide and administer credit that meets the needs of clients while also ensuring the safety and soundness of the Bank.
Paul received his undergraduate degree from Willamette University and received his MBA from Claremont Graduate School in Claremont, California. His banking career started in California with Security Pacific National Bank in Los Angeles, where he gained a wealth of experience in corporate banking and capital markets. Wanting to gain middle market experience, he went to Community Bank in Pasadena, where he was a senior lender, credit administrator, and part of the bank’s management team. Wanting to return to Portland to raise their family, he and his wife decided to return home in 1994, where Paul joined US Bank in Portland.
After holding a variety of credit administration positions for a variety of lending groups at US Bank, Paul decided to join the newly formed Commerce Bank of Oregon in 2006, where he knew he’d be able to make direct contributions to the bank’s clients and culture.
